Breitling Emergency

By joeltobias · Comments (2)

The Breitling Emergency is considered by some to be the ultimate aviator watch. The watch manufacturer is synonymous with the Aviation industry and many pilots wear (or would like to wear) one of their watches. I’ve had one for a while now but not the Emergency. Not until yesterday that is.

The Emergency has apparently saved over 60 lives since it’s introduction due to it’s inbuilt emergency  transmitter (hence the name) which emits a signal on the international 121.5 frequency once activated (see note below). I hope it never has to save my life. Well, actually I do! I guess what I really mean is that I hope I am never in the position that I have to activate it. Read More→

De Havilland DH-01

De Havilland DH-01

De Havilland have introduced a new range of watches developed specifically for pilots by pilots. The DH-01/ DH-02 record times of take-offs and landings and the duration of flights.

They also allow the user to register both block to block and total time. Both these functions can operate in either UTC or local time. All functions include a second time zone, an alarm and a 1/100-second chronometer as standard.

All the chronometer functions are based on an exceptionally high-precision temperature-compensated quartz oscillator (with a maximum error rate of approx. 0.1 seconds a day at between -25º C and +65º C).

DH-02
The DH-02 model is similar to the DH-01 but has in addition an altimeter optimized for  aviation. The DH-02 model is equipped with an ultra-sensitive latest-generation pressure sensor enabling altitude to be estimated to an accuracy of one foot.
De Havilland Watches are available with hand-stitched leather, steel or titanium straps.

iPhone 3gs

iPhone 3GS

It won’t surprise any of you to know that as well as a helicopter freak, I’m also a gadget freak. I usually have the latest phone, computer, camera, etc, etc. My study at home is an Aladdin’s cave of once used- forever forgotten gizmo’s.

But I rarely dispose of the unused stuff either. You just never know when you may want something. When it came to the iPhone, I admit that I wasn’t an early adopter. I had an iTouch which is the same but without the phone capabilities, and I was sort of happy with that.

Never the less I succumbed and bought one. It is not, however, my main phone – I use a Nokia for that and it will take something VERY special to shift me away.

Anyway, we digress. Most of you will be familiar with the features of the iPhone so I’m not going to bother with that in general, but the applications feature, will be the focus of this post. Read More→
