Silverstone 2010

Silverstone has got to be the ultimate in events where the helicopter community attend in droves. I attended the qualification day (I couldn’t get entry tickets for the race) and there was certainly no shortage of movements on the day and I am reliably informedĀ  that the movements increase significantly on the main event day. As most people know by now, HeliAir have secured the rights to operate the heliport for the next umpteen years and Silverstone 2010 was to be the main event for them since establishing a base there as part of a permanent site. Celtic Manor

Recently I travelled down to Newport in South Wales, just north of Cardiff for a series of business meetings which I combined with a weekend away. I had booked in to the Celtic Manor Resort which is a magnificent hotel and leisure complex boasting three championship golf courses including one, the 2010, built specifically to hostĀ  the 2010 Ryder Cup. Perfect for the enthusiastic golfer – except I’m not an enthusiastic golfer. It does however have …………a helipad. HCGB Afternoon Tea Fly-in

The Helicopter Club of Great Britain organise various events throughout the year and last weekend one of their members was kind enough to throw an afternoon tea party at his home in Warwickshire. I flew down with Dave H, Steve H and Capt. Collier and our destination was the home of one of the members who lives near Halfpenny Green Airfield. Our host owns and operates a single squirrel helicopter (AS350 BII) which is in immaculate condition and is hangared also at his home. He owns plenty of land and approximately 15 helicopters flew in on the day for a fantastic lunch and afternoon Tea.

No expense was spared and all our host asked for was for us to make a donation to the Warwickshire Air Ambulance which is based locally to him at Halfpenny Green Airfield. Read More→
